Open-Minded Crafting Fun - Job Related

The challenge this fortnight at Open-Minded Crafting Fun is Office supplies or job related.

It found it hard to pick an image for this challenge and really wanted to work with an image by one of our sponsors Aurora Wings, so one of my teamies told me to 'Think outside the box' and suggested the lovely 'Chinese Lady with Erhu' and go with Musician as a job.

Great, I thought until I came to colour her!!

I think she is the most challenging image I have ever coloured and also I printed her quite large I think she is about 7 inches high by 6 inches wide.

But I am so happy I went with the challenge of colouring her, it was great to stretch myself and I am more than happy with the finished card.

I used Copics to colour her and then fussy cut and added to an aged sheet music backing paper.

I also added a chinese fan from the sil store and also some chinese writing - which translated means 'Harmony'.

Finally I added a couple of Fimo roses I made and a rolled flower.

I hope I have inspired you to come and join in and look forward to seeing all your wonderful projects.

We once again have some fab sponsors for this challenge.

Desert Rose

Today there is an exciting new release at the Aurora Wings showcase Blog.

This little beauty is called "Desert Rose" the belly dancer.

1800 x 2100 pixels at 300 dpi (6" x 7"/15.2 x 17.8 cm)

I was excited when I saw Mitzi's new image and also a little scared as there are so many pleats but I also had a million ideas.

The main thing I wanted to do was make a background incorporating a kind of Moroccan look doorway, I googled clip art and found this image from dreams time.

I decided I could make my own using an upside down heart and a rectangle, then merging with a moroccan lattice I have from the Silhouette store. It took a while to get it right but I ended up with just what I was after.

While I was searching a found a lovely free desert background that I have decided to use behind the lattice.

So here is my finished card

The image was coloured with Copics and Promarkers, my colour choice is based on a few articles I saw on Moroccan themed parties, which incorporated bright orange, pink and purple and some gold.

am really pleased with the end result and am looking forward to colouring her again.

Please go a check out the lovely creations by my team-mates at the Aurora Wings Showcase Blog.

Crafty Cardmakers - World of Fantasy

Our new challenge at Crafty Cardmakers this fortnight is hosted by Lin, who has chosen the then 'A world of fantasy'.  Lin would like to see a fairy, unicorn, dragon etc as the main focus on your card.

I have chosen to colour this cute fairy by The Stamping chef called "'Alyce'.

I have coloured her with copics using my favourite colour combo at the moment of turquoise and Pink.  I decided to give her some funky pink and purple hair too.

I decided on quite a minimal layout with just a vine with a couple of roses and some some sparkly gems.

Open-Minded Crafting Fun #17 - Last days of Summer

Hi everyone, this fortnight challenge over at Open-Minded Crafting Fun is called 'Last days of Summer'

I used a cute image by one of our sponsors The Paper Shelter called 'Happy Times', just perfect for this theme.

The image is coloured with Copics, I tried to get some kind of bark effect after watching a tutorial by Alyce of Kit & Clowder, which you can find Here, not entirely happy with it,if you see Alyces finished work, you will understand why, but hey Its a learning process.

I used my trusty silhouette cameo for the grass and tree tops and added a vinyl sentiment.

Please do come and join in the fun, we have some wonderful sponsors, with great prizes.

Sea Turtle Kiss

Today there is another wonderful release in the Mer-tots series by Mitzi Sato-Wuiff of Aurora Wings.

The Showcase Design Team have been working on this beautiful image called 'Sea Turtle Kiss'.

She is available at both of the Aurora Wings online shops Here and Here.

Just adorable, I am sure you will agree.

For my project I decided to decorate an MDF door Hangar.

I have added 2 images taken in different light as I could not decide which looked better!!!

I glued some blue pearlescent textured card to the MDF, then sanded round it to give a nice clean edge.  Then added some different coloured distress inks and dotted with Stickles.

I couldn't resist this little jellyfish from the Sil store that I cut out of holographic transparent plastic.

All of the flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts and the little starfish charms and tiny glitter bottle are all previous ebay buys.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the teams work at the Aurora Wings Showcase Blog.

Flower Girl

Last weekend I joined in my first live colour along with Alyce of Kit & Clowder.

Due to the time difference (Alyce is in Oz) it did not start till 11pm.  so I armed myself up with Coffee and coloured along, it was such a great way to learn, I even managed to keep up, although by the time it finished at 1.00am my eyes were starting to get a little glazed!  But I am so glad I joined in and cannot wait for the next one.

Anyway, the image we used was by Whimsy Stamps and called "Flower Girl'.

The image is coloured with Copics, I did not have any greys for the hair so decided to use some dark BV colours and think it actually came out ok.

Here is my finished card

The papers were some my MIL got free with a magazine and I thought the colour match was perfect.

I added flowers by Wild Orchid Crafts, swirly die is Memory box and the banner is La La Land.

The sentiment is from the Silhouette store and cut in White Vinyl.

Thanks Alyce for such a fab colour along and wonderful classes.

The Secret

Today I have some exciting secrets to share!

A couple of weeks ago I posted a project using  'The Gift' by Mitzi Sato-Wiuff  of Aurora Wings.

Following on from that today is the release of a wonderful new image by Mitzi called 'The Secret'.

This fab new image is available at either of Mitzi's online shops Here or Here

The other secret is that I have been working on this image for the last couple of weeks as part of Mitz's new Showcase Design Team.

Woohoo I can shout it out now, I have been bursting to share my exciting news.  I am so honoured and excited to be a part of this new team.  As you can probably tell from my recent blog posts I am a huge fan of her gorgeous artwork and look forward to working with many more of Mitzi's lovely images.

So, here it is my completed project.

The image is coloured with a mix of Copics and Promarkers.   I used some images of Siamese Fighting Fish for the colour inspiration, although I could not get red to blend so well with the turquoise so used orange with some red tones.

I didn't actually realise how similar to my previous project my colour scheme ended up until I wrote this post!

I stippled the the background in blue and green and added some Inkylicious and Lavinina Stamps, to look like they were sharing their secret in a little coral reef hideaway.

For the frame I used an iridescent card that changes from turquoise to orange in the light and then added some flowers from WOC, pearls, a little seahorse (sprayed with glitter) and doubled up some clams so they open up just a little. I couldn't resist adding a little double bow in the corner :)

I think you will agree that it is a beautiful image to play with.   You can visit the showcase blog with the link below where you can meet the rest of the new Design Team and have a peek at all their  lovely creations using 'The Secret'.

There is also a fab and friendly Facebook page and challenge blog, where there are always great challenges, prizes, fun competitions and many beautiful creations with Mitzi's images.

Open-Minded Crafting Fun #16 - Summer Food

Hi everyone the latest challenge over at Open-minded Crafting Fun has the theme of Summer Food.

I got to work with my first image by The East Wind, she is the wonderful 'Ghetto Fabulous Ashley' and I loved colouring her, but I was concentrating so much on trying to do my hair flicking I completely forgot about light source and screwed up her lovely ringlets, I couldn't bring myself to start again as stupidly I had left the hair til last.

So it may not be my best 'hair' but I have stuck with the image as a reminder to myself to take my time and also to measure my improvement, once i finish the hair class over at Kit & Clowder Ning.

Anyway thats enough wallowing in my lack of colouring skills :)

I chose to have her leaning against a Giant Margarita, as I think she looks kinda Sassy and like she would love a good cocktail.

I have used Copics for the hair and skin and Pro-Markers for the clothes on this image.

The background and Margarita (just love how this turned out, I used acetate to look like the glass and a little glitter around the rim to look like sugar) are from the Silhouette store and the sentiment is from Gingers House.
